You are invited to participate in a research study entitled “Assessing the user-experience and usability of the Health Information System (HIS) by the healthcare staff at the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) ” conducted by Ms. Ruba Hadla from AUBMC’s Department of IT Medical Center Applications and Dr. Karim Zahed and Rawan Hallal at MSFEA at AUB.

A. Purpose of the Study:
The purpose of this study is to assess the usability and user experience of healthcare staff with the Hospital Information System (HIS) at the at the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC). Also, we aim to model the factors influencing the usefulness and satisfaction within the system.
B. Project Description:
o In this study, you will be completing an online survey questionnaire that aims to assess the usability and the user-experience of healthcare staff with the health information system (HIS) at the at the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC).
o The estimated time to complete this survey is approximately 10-15 minutes.
o This research is being conducted with the goal of identifying solutions and compiling recommendations to improve the usability and the user-experience of the HIS by the healthcare staff to ultimately optimize healthcare delivery and improve the quality of care at AUBMC. The findings will also be presented at Maroun Semaan Faculty of Engineering and Architecture as part of a student thesis.Also , the study will be published in a journal article .
o Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria: Healthcare staff currently working AUBMC and who use the health information system (HIS).
o Intended Number of Participants: We aim to involve 90 healthcare staff currently working at AUBMC who use the HIS.
C. Confidentiality
o This survey is completely anonymous and will not collect any personally identifiable information (PII). The collected data will remain confidential and anonymous. Access to data is restricted to the research team only and all data will be destroyed responsibly after the completion of the research project.
o To ensure high level of privacy and confidentiality ,as a participant you are kindly requested to not share any identifier /names in the open ended questions
D. Participant Rights
o Participation in this study is voluntary. You are free to leave the study at any time without penalty. Your decision not to participate will in no way influence your employment at AUBMC or relationship with AUB.
o Refusal to participate will involve no penalty or loss of benefits to which you are otherwise entitled. o You have the right to skip and not answer any question in the survey questionnaire.
o You have the right to withdraw your consent or discontinue participation at any time for any reason. Your decision to withdraw will not involve any penalty or loss of benefits to which you are entitled. Discontinuing participation in no way affects your employment at AUBMC or relationship with AUB.
E. Risks and Benefits
o There are no known physical, psychological, reputational/legal, or other risks or discomforts associated with participating in this study.
o You receive no direct benefits from participating in this research; however, your participation does help researchers better understand issues related to the usability and the user-experience of the HIS by the healthcare staff and will be of great value to this project.
o This study will contribute to generalized knowledge and the improvement of hospital information systems, ultimately benefiting patient care and healthcare staff.
F. Compensation:
If you decide to participate, a 30$ voucher from Antoine Library as an incentive will be provided to the first 33 participants.
